Jackson Harbor - The Living Postcard
Rock Island Tour
Exploring picturesque Jackson Harbor is like a trip back in time. Once home to the Island’s busy commercial fishing fleet, today, a single fish tug makes regular trips to her nets, returning with silvery whitefish and lawyers, a local delicacy. The docks, net sheds, and century-old fishermen’s homes are reminders of a day-long gone.
Launching from the State dock, paddle over the remains of the Iris, one of the last working schooners, abandoned here in 1913. Paddling east, take in the beauty of the Jackson Harbor Ridges and Carlin’s Point natural areas. From there, Rock Island beckons just a mile away.
Upon beaching the kayaks near the famed Rock Island Boathouse, you will have the opportunity to explore the many wonders of Rock island State Park; The Viking Hall, Boathouse, Potawatomi Lighthouse, and more. Restrooms are available on Rock Island.
Contact Island Adventure Company to inquire about the tour package.
Time of tour: Approximately 3 hours
Cost: $90.00
Carlin Point Tour
Take a beautiful shoreline paddle along The Ridges sanctuary to the beach on Carlins Point.
From there we will hike the trails looking for some of the rare and endangered plant and bird species that reside in this ecologically unique area. Then we will return to the kayaks hiking along the beach and paddle back to Jackson harbor.
Time of tour: Approximately 2 hours
Cost: $65.00
